According to a reliable leakster (the Twitter account @OnLeaks), Samsung’s S6 Edge Plus may have a screen of 5.5 to 5.7 inches, but the rest of the handset will probably remain largely unchanged.
According to the leaked render, the new model would be significantly larger and wider than the current S6 Edge. A 154.45 mm height means that the new device would be about 108.69% taller than the original version of the handset. So, the news was hard to believe even though the tipster provided also a leaked image of the model.
A Slash Gear expert even made some calculations on the leaked dimensions and compared them with the original size of a Galaxy S6 Edge to find that the leaked picture may be a “Photoshop job done on the fly” by either the company or the leakster himself.
But the image clearly shows that the microphone will be located on the opposite side, while the volume buttons will have changed position. Additionally, according to the leak, Galaxy 6 Edge Plus may come with a microUSB port, instead of a USB Type-C port as we were accustomed with in previous models.
The internal build is also expected to remain largely the same. But the rumor mill says that it may come with a Qualcomm chip set, which may drive the cost of the headset up since S6 Edge and S6 are equipped with Samsung-produced Exynos processor chips.
Also, the new model would run on a Snapdragon 808 CPU, instead of the Exynos 7420 CPU, which was a last moment switch from Snapdragon 810. But Snapdragon 808 is expected to lack two of the eight A57 cores Snapdragon 810 has.
Nevertheless, experts claim that S6 Edge Plus may be slower than S6 and S6 Edge because LG G4’s Snapdragon 808 had proven slower than Galaxy S6’s Exynos in performance tests.
Though fans expect it to be dubbed “Galaxy S6 Edge Plus,” its maker didn’t disclose an official name for it. The new model will be probably launched in late August or during the IFA electronics show in Berlin in September, according to other rumors.
During IFA, Samsung is expected to also announce its next generation of phablets, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, a revamped version of the Galaxy Note Edge. So analysts are concerned about the public reception of the Galaxy Edge Plus, a headset that is slightly smaller than the company’s new phablet, but slower than both the Note and S6 Edge.
