Great news for all Google Earth lovers, as Google Earth Pro is now free. The application is now available at no cost for anyone who wants to download and use it.
Google’s decision to give Google Earth Pro for free is quite amazing, considering that the application used to cost a whopping $399 per year. The only two requirements that Google is asking from Google Earth Pro users is that they sign up for a license, which is free and that they allow Google to run a system check to ensure that each system meets the performance requirements for Google Earth Pro to run smoothly.
If you are using a Windows PC, then your system will need to run Windows XP, at the very least. You will also need a minimum of 512MB of RAM and 500MB of free internal storage. If you are using an Apple computer, such as a Mac, then you will need the same exact requirements and Mac OX 10.6 operating system or higher.
So, what will Google Earth Pro provide you with? Some pretty awesome features that until now required users to shell out $399 each year. Among those awesome features, there is the ability to measure 3D buildings and also various geographical locations, view traffic and demographic specifics and print high resolution screenshots, among other things. Google Earth Pro will allow you, the registered user, to also create content.
Stafford Marquardt, Google Earth Pro’s Product Manager, revealed:
Google Earth Pro has all the easy-to-use features and detailed imagery of Google Earth, along with advanced tools that help you measure 3D buildings, print high-resolution images for presentations or reports, and record HD movies of your virtual flights around the world.
Marquardt continued to say that over the last 10 years, scientists and hobbyists from around the world have been using Google Earth Pro for pretty much everything, from placing solar panels on rooftops to planning hikes.
It’s true that the average Google Maps user won’t find Google Earth Pro too useful, but professionals who until now did not want to pay the fee, now have the amazing opportunity to use a piece of software with great capabilities.
Google’s decision to make Google Earth Pro free has been commended by many and it is going to be interesting to watch how this unfolds for the tech giant. You can download and sign up for Google Earth Pro for PC or Mac right here.
