It has been reported that human enterovirus 68 is at the root of an epidemic, although no definitive answer has been produced yet.
More than 900 children have been treated at Children’s Hospital Colorado for severe respiratory illnesses since the 18th of August, with 86 children being admitted there. At Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, 5 children were put on ventilator this week, including a 13 year boy whose condition was deteriorated from a mild cold to a dreaded illness overnight.
Jennifer Cornejo told about her son William that firstly he was OK but later on he became unconscious. His condition was horrible.
This illness seems to be very common among young children having asthma. Suspected outbreaks were reported in 9 other states like Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Iowa, Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas and Missouri.
In Children’s Hospital in Ohio, an average of 73 patients were seen with respiratory complaints per day between the 31st of August and 2nd of September, a 40 percent increase, as per The Columbus Dispatch. Doctors recommend that basic sanitary precautions should be taken including washing hands with soap and water often, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and sharing items with sick people.
