Twenty years ago, one of the most twisted serial killers that America had ever seen, Jeffrey Dahmer was beaten to death while in prison. Obviously, he was not exactly missed, but everybody wanted to know back in 1994 what lead his fellow inmate to do such a thing. Now, Jeffrey Dahmer’s murderer finally explains why he did it.
His name is Christopher Scarver and he was 25 years old at the time. He had gotten into prison for having killed his former employer in a robbery in 1990. It was there that he met Dahmer,37 at the time, whom Scarver says was obviously not repenting for his actions.
Scarver told how he would constantly play practical jokes by manufacturing severed limbs from prison food and drizzling on packets of ketchup as blood. “He would put them in places where people would be,”, said Scarver, discribing Dahmer’s behavious as “irritating”.
He said that he would keep his distance from him and that he would carry a newspaper clipping in his pocket where it said that Jeffery Dahmer had killed, dismembered and even eaten 17 men. “I never interacted with him,”, Scarver said.
On the morning of November 28th 1994, it so happened that Scarver, Dahmer and a third inmate, Jesse Anderson were assigned to clean the bathrooms in the prison gymnasium. And so, the guards took them to their place of work and the left them unattended for the duration of this task.
When Scarver turned his back to get his mop, and while he was filling a bucket with water, he felt somebody poking him in the back . When he turned around, he remembers looking at the two men, who were standing behind him and whom he remembers “were kind of laughing under their breath,”. He looked into both their eye but couldn’t figure out which one had done it.
Then they split up and an angry Scarver followed Dahmer into a staff locker room, picked up a metal bar from the weight room and showed Dahmer his newspaper clipping. He asked him whether he had actually done the things written there and told him that he was disgusted.
At that point, Dahmer realized that he was in danger and started looking for the door, but Scarver blocked him. It took two swings of the metal bar to crush Jeffry Dahmer’s head. Then Scarver related how he went after Anderson who had a simillar reaction and how he killed him as well.
For his crimes, Scarver is still serving a two life sentences. In the beginning, Scarver pleaded insanity in the trial for the two murders, but then he switched it to “no contest” so that he could get a transfer to a federal penitentiary.
Scarver believes that it was not by accident that the guards left them unattended that day and that, to a certain extent at least, they were expecting something to happen. He explains that Dahmer usually had a guard close to him at all times, and that is particularly odd that that day he just happened to be left alone with two other inmates. But he does not mean to pursue this accusation, because he explains he fears for his safety and cannot afford a proper lawyer.
When Christopher Scarver committed his first murder, he claims to have heard voices that referred to his as “the chosen one”. After the two murders that he committed in prison, he has been examined numerous times, but a clear diagnosis has never been reached in his case. Scarver blames prison food for his illness, precisely bread and refined sugars for causing him to have psychotic breaks.
Now Scarver is held at the Centennial Correctional Facility in Canon City, Colo and his main activity is writing poems. Actually, one of his poem books is available on Amazon.
Whether or not people are still in need of closure in regards to the serial killer’s death, it is very useful that Jeffrey Dahmer’s murderer finally explains why he did it, but most importantly in what circumstances. The fact that Dahmer was not the least bit repentant for his actions come as no surprise thought, when looking back at the horrors that he has committed.
