The latest archaeological discovery comes from Ukraine where a 6,000-year old temple was unearthed. Scientists believe that the temple may have been used by pagans to sacrifice animals for their gods. The latest archaeological discovery looks like some sort of rite for animal ritualistic sacrifices.
The temple was discovered inside a giant prehistoric site, where researchers found remains of animals and human-like figurines. The latest archaeological discovery is a 197x 66 feet temple made of clay and wood that was at least two-story high. The animal remains and the figurines were unearthed in the courtyard of this temple. The archaeologists also found that the upper floor of the temple had five rooms.
The archaeologists in charge of the discovery are Mykhailo Videiko and Nataliya Burdo from the Institute of Archaeology in Ukraine. They believe that the latest archaeological discovery was built before writing existed.
The archaeologists presented their discovery at the annual meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists in Istanbul, Turkey in September.
The archaeologists also found what seemed to be the remains of clay platforms, which are thought to have been used as altars. There were eight clay platforms, one on the upper floor and seven on the ground floor. The courtyard of the latest archaeological discovery contained many animal bones and pottery fragments.
Another strange thing about the recently discovered 6,000-year old pagan temple is that after it was abandoned, the temple was supposedly burned down, archaeologists believe.
The archaeologists who discovered the ancient temple made an official statement saying that:
“The upper floor platform contains numerous burnt bones of lamb, associated with sacrifices. The walls of all five rooms on the upper floor were decorated by red paint, which exuded a ceremonial atmosphere.”
The archaeologists also discovered human-like figurines and ornaments made of gold and bones. The scientists believe that some of the ornaments were worn on the hair as beauty accessories.
Last week in Israel researchers made another archaeological discovery: a temple or some sort of cult building where animal bones and other ceramic fragments were found.
