Sure, Barbie dolls are pretty and everything, but they are far from being realistic copies of what a normal girl or woman looks like. There are studies that prove Barbie dolls can affect a girl’s self image because she compares herself with Barbie’s measurements, which would not pass the reality test, by the way. Meet Lammily, the new doll, nicknamed the “Normal Barbie” because it has closer-to-reality measurements than any Barbie doll available on the market.
The Normal Barbie will be available starting with January 2015 and has already gathered a lot of attention for being a more “normal” looking doll than her evil sister Barbie. The Normal Barbie has the body shape of an average 19-year-old American girl.
Instead of the frustratingly Barbie luxuries, like the Malibu beach house or her red Ferrari, the Normal Babie, Lammily comes with wardrobe pairings and a $6 dollar stickers pack. These stickers are the real attraction of the Normal Barbie doll because it’s inspired by reality. The stickers are called the Lammily Marks and are stickers for normal human marks like stretch marks, cellulite, acne, freckles, moles, tattoos, scratches, stitches, scars and even dirt marks.
The Normal Barbie, Lammily was created by Nickolay Lamm who said that he was inspired to add the marks by actress and pop singer Demi Lovato who saw the doll and liked it. She said the makers should add cellulite marks and acne marks to make it more realistic.
Lamm was afraid that the marks would look scary for girls but then he thought that this way the doll would look more real. He said that seeing the movie “Fault in our stars” helped him make a decision about adding the marks.
He said that:
“A lot of us run away from reality. But I wanted to get to the point where it’s like cellulite, and people are like, ‘That’s awesome.”
