Tech giant Microsoft has announced that it is going to commence release of its first update to Windows Phone 8.1 very soon.
Microsoft has published details about the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 on its developer website.
The update is likely to be rolled out later this year. However, the exact timing of release is still unknown.
Meanwhile, the leading technology company has already begun revealing few imminent features to the phone manufacturers. The company has also disclosed that the native folder support will also arrive soon to its mobile operating system.
Following the OS update, the Windows users will be able to drag one Live Tile onto another to create a folder. Interestingly, the feature is already available in Android and iOS for years.
The developers have also included voice over LTE (VoLTE) support in the OS. This will allow users of Lumia smartphone to make phone calls using 4G connection.
Other important features of the update include 1280×800 screens including support for 7in screens.
Market insiders say the Microsoft may come up with some Windows Phone phablets in the near future.
With the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, Microsoft will provide a phonebook entry for Cortana.
According to the experts, the company is taking more cues from the Androids in the upcoming Windows Phone update.
According to the reports, the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 will allow phone makers to sell smart screen covers which reveal definite information when closed.
Phone makers like LG, Samsung and HTC already offer such covers with their Android handsets. Their users can easily peak at e-mails and other notifications while keeping major portion of the screen protected from dirt and dust.
The developer documents say Windows Phone can support screen sizes up to seven inches with resolutions of 1280-by-768 (or 1280-by-800 with on-screen buttons).
Some of the other potential specifications for Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 are- custom lock screens for phone makers, Voice over LTE support and folders on the Start screen.
