The tech world is abuzz with the reports that Microsoft is going to launch the successor of its latest operating system (OS) ‘Windows 8’ by the end of next month.
The new Microsoft’s OS is likely to be named “Windows 9,” if the tech giant continues its products’ naming scheme.
If reports are believed, the new operating system is likely to be unveiled at a press event on September 30.
The announcement comes a week after a tech site ZDNET reported that the Microsoft was mulling over launching a preview of the newest Windows version at September or October end.
According to ZDNET, several leaks have suggested that the newest Windows OS version, which has been code named ‘Threshold’, is likely to come with following specifications and features.
- Mini-Start menu
- Virtual desktops
- Elimination of Charms bar feature (The feature has been unsuccessful with since its debut with Windows 8.
- Microsoft’s virtual assistant Cortana for desktop
Microsoft’s last Operating System ‘Windows 8’ has suffered a major setback since its launch in 2012, as soon after it grew becoming unpopular among consumers. The Metro interface may have become a bone of contention for many. Moreover, the offer price to upgrade to a touch-enabled desktop also brought misfortunes for the company as consumers were no more interested in these deals.
The technical support for Windows XP was discontinued in April after 12 years of service. This left the users with only two options-either continue using outdated Operating System or simply upgrade to the newest version. Additionally, the company had announced the end of ‘mainstream support’ for Widows 7 on January 13 next year.
Analysts say the ultimate motive of Microsoft behind this latest addition in its operating system range is to persuade users of Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows Vista to upgrade to the so-called ‘Windows Threshold’.
