The released information suggests that Microsoft has made segments of a new processing core accessible to developers. As a result, Xbox One games can gain advantage over similar Playstation 4 titles due to the fact that Microsoft granted it access to a seventh CPU core.
Beforehand, out of the eight processing cores, two were appointed for the operating system. As of now, one of them is able to contribute up to 80% of its capacity to improve game capabilities.
But all this seems to come at a price. Firstly, some features are less effective, some even abandoned. Voice detection capabilities like game-specific voice command are being given up. The result of this this is that during game play, voice commands will be few and far between. Also, infra-red and depth functions operated by Kinect are hindered.
Secondly, the amount of CPU time that remains available differs at any moment. The operating system is also unable to convey how much CPU time is available, which makes scheduling tasks very difficult.
The leaked software documentation kit indicates that we are expecting a plan from Microsoft that addresses this issue, in upcoming updates.
However, the lessening of Kinect’s functionality isn’t something most users will feel remorse about. So, the Xbox One is in no danger of losing its number one spot among game consoles, as it still operates overall smoother and better than its competitor, Playstation 4.
It has been suggested that Halt revealed this information with the purpose of making it facile for independent game developers to use the software in order to create parallel applications, even pirated games for Xbox One.
But the fact is the leaked SDK remains only a curiosity. Encryption technologies and side-server authentication makes it impossible for the average home developer to make use of the software. In truth, the Xbox One is as safe now as it was before the leak.
Developers who operate within the law were previously granted with the SDK, but this release marked the first time it was available to the public, in contravention to Redmond’s non-disclosure agreement.
