On Thursday, the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America Cecile Richards publicly apologized for the ‘tone and statements’ made by one of the organization’s top executives in a covert video released Tuesday.
The video, which may be disturbing to many, shows Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director of medical services at the PPFA, casually talking about tearing, ripping off, and crushing baby parts over a glass of wine and a salad, and monetize them.
The video was filmed in July 2013 by the Center for Medical Progress, a non-for-profit group concerned with medical ethics issues. Dr. Nucatola was tricked into believing that the ones she was having launch with were the representatives of a human biologics company interested in purchasing genuine fetal tissue.
Ms. Richards recently said that the organization was not trafficking human hearts, livers, lungs and muscles as the video suggests and denied that Planned Parenthood doctors performed an illegal and highly controversial technique called “partial birth abortion” to obtain those organs intact.
The PPFA chief insisted that her organization was committed to delivering “compassionate” health care to women seeking an abortion and helping scientific research. Yet, she acknowledged that Dr. Nucatola’s tone in the video didn’t reflect that compassion.
‘This is unacceptable and I personally apologize for the staff member’s tone and statements,’
said Ms. Richards.
Yet, a sorry is not enough to erase from people’s minds the graphic details and the emotional detachment with which Dr. Nucatola provided those details between two sips of red wine at a luxury restaurant.
Dr. Nucatola says in the video that PPFA’s facilities want to “accommodate” the fetal tissue patients wish to donate in a way that the clinic doesn’t look like it is making money off of it. She even “threw a number out” and said that a “specimen” costs between $30 and $100.
In the U.S., trafficking of body parts of aborted babies is illegal and may put the doctor or whoever is involved in it behind bars for up to ten years while also having to pay a $500,000 fine.
But that didn’t seem to stop Dr. Nucatola from explaining how she and the doctors had an extensive expertise in getting baby organs intact by “crushing” above and below the organ so they can get it out intact.
She even mentioned that they have some difficulties in providing an intact “calvarium”, or the baby’s part, but with a proper dilation and some medical techniques there is a good chance of getting it intact, as well. You can watch the video above, but be wary that it may be highly disturbing.
