It has been a long time since much thought has been given to MSN, the venerable online portal of Microsoft for news and information. Although, a vast worldwide audience has been received, it isn’t evident that it has been top of mind for Microsoft either. For example, there was no mention of the MSN brand in the email which was sent to the employees by new CEO Satya Nadella in August, about the future of the company.
It turns out to be that Microsoft has been working busily on MSN’s ambitious revised version. Now, it is available for preview at msn.com. One of its most notable thing is that 2 primary strategies of the company of the Nadella era are reflected by it. The dots between the products are connected and they are put on platforms other than Windows.
There is a toolbar in the new MSN which links to several Microsoft properties like Skype, MSN Music, OneDrive and Office. There is nothing surprising about it. However, it also acknowledges that nobody leads a purely Microsoft-Centric online life by also linking to Twitter and Facebook. Microsoft says that other sites which it doesn’t own may also be added.
Now MSN has organized topics into Travel, Health and Fitness, Food & Drink, Sports, Money and News. These topics won’t just be sections on that website. A series of stand-alone applications for PCs, tablets and smartphones would also be there. The personalization settings would be the same. Favorite stocks or sports team can be set up on MSN Website.
