JRC Insurance Group, a life insurance agency based in San Diego, Ca, announced on Monday, August 31st, that they will be renewing their $1,000 scholarship for the Fall of 2015. The JRC Insurance Group Scholarship exists to provide financial assistance to high school seniors and college students, while raising awareness for the need for life insurance amongst U.S. families.
Despite the rising cost of higher education, the number of families protecting their children’s education by securing life insurance is declining. LIMRA, and independent life insurance research association, reports that 85% of consumers agree that “most people need life insurance”, but less than half of middle market consumers ages 25 to 64 have individual life insurance coverage.
The JRC Insurance Group Scholarship awards one $1,000 prize each semester to the high school senior or college student who best explains why the family breadwinner’s income should be protected by life insurance, and the characteristics displayed by those who put their family first. The student must submit this in essay format with a maximum of 1,000 words.
Current college students, or high school seniors ages 17 and over who are enrolled to enter college, may apply for the scholarship. The deadline for students to submit their application and essay for this Fall is Oct. 15, 2015. The winner will be announced on JRC’s website and Facebook page on Nov. 1, 2015.
If a student’s essay is chosen as the winning essay, it will be published on JRC’s website. JRC Insurance Group began offering the scholarship in the Fall of 2014. Previous winners were Anna Buchanon from Gainesville, FL, and Austin Ramirez, a Business Administration major from Texas A&M. Both of their winning essays are featured on JRC’s website. “We wanted to not only award them the $1,000 scholarship, but give them public acknowledgement of their achievement, by featuring their essays,” said Chris Huntley, director of marketing at JRC Insurance Group. “Our winners can forever point to JRC’s site, showing where their work was featured on an authoritative, established web property.”
One unique feature about the JRC Insurance Group scholarship is that there are no financial need or academic requirements to apply. “We didn’t think it was fair to exclude students based on their parents’ financial status,” said Huntley. “Just about anyone attending a college or university can apply, even high school seniors if they’re 17 or over and planning on going to college.”
