Human brain is hard nut to crack. Scientists from across the globe have been jostling for years over understanding the human brain and its working in different conditions.
In a major breakthrough, researchers at the Tufts University, Boston, have managed to successfully develop a 3D tissue in a research laboratory that they claim may help in understanding the human brain.
According to the researchers who were behind the experiment, the lab-gown tissue resembles a human brain and also replicates many of its functions.
This is not for the first time that the scientists have tried to grow a replica of human brain in lab. Earlier some scientists have grown neurons in petri dishes to analyse the structure and function of the brain. Unfortunately, those models didn’t survive long enough for functionality. And the best part with the recent developed three-dimensional structure is that it can remain alive for over two months. Hence, scientists get more time to study the functionality of brain in more effective way.
Till date a lot is known about human body and its complex parts and organs. But brain has always been a big mystery for the world scientists of all ages.
The bioengineers at Tufts University grew the three-dimensional functional model of brain tissue from rat cells. They wanted to know the working of brain more accurately and understand about its structure and function during pain, injury, illness, drug reaction and trauma.
