Opposing the fact that playing video game leads to aggressive behaviour in kids, a new study has suggested that children who spend nearly an hour in playing video games might be more well adjusted in society that those who never play it.
A group scientists at Oxford University, who carried out a study named, “Electronic gaming and psychosocial adjustment” found that kids who play video games for less than an hour every day are more likely to be helpful, emotionally stable and have the highest levels of sociability.
However, children who spend more than three hours in gaming had the opposite effect. They are more prone to be moody, unhappy with their life .
The research was conducted on 5,000 children in Britain between ages 10 and 15. They were asked about how much time they spent playing video games. They the kids were told to rate rated few of the following factors like, satisfaction with their lives, how well they mix-up with their peers, how likely they were to help people in difficulty etc.
The study revealed that children who play video game daily for an hour are socially well adjusted and happy with their lives while children who spend more than three hours on video game and kids who never play video games demonstrated just the opposite.
“Active engagement — maybe even playing video games with your child — will give you a better understanding and provide you valuable insights into why your child is playing and what they’re getting out of that,” Dr. Andrew Przybylski, lead researcher of this study said.
However, Dr. Andrew Przybylski, believes that this could be related to how much of a child’s spare time is taken up by video gaming. If a child has three-to-four hours’ free time a day and most of the time he plays game, then he missing out on some enriching activities.
