After China became the third country to successfully complete the lunar orbiter return mission after the United States and former Soviet Union, the head of Chinese lunar probe program has called for an in-depth analysis of data gathered by the test lunar orbiter.
The lunar orbiter returned in the early hours of Saturday in north China after an eight-day space mission and collected several incredible images of moon and the Earth together. Scientists have high hopes of the photographs brought by the orbiter as they are believing that these images can help in a big way in further space probes.
The test orbiter grounded in Siziwang Banner at the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China.
The lunar programme head aims at speeding up work on Chang’e-5, the star of the lunar mission scheduled for 2017.
While addressing a ceremony on Sunday, Xu Daze, head of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, said, “The mission was realised with stable flight and precision in launch timing, orbit entry, recovery, and all pre-set goals were achieved.”
The ceremony was organized for the reception of the lunar orbiter that made its successful comeback on Earth on Saturday morning.
Xu said that the success of the lunar mission marked a major breakthrough in the completion of third and final phase of the lunar schedule – orbiting, landing and return. Besides, it had also heightened the understanding of the mechanisms of high-velocity re-entry, development of new space materials and innovative design of the space equipment.
According to the scientists, the planned Chang’e-5 mission aims at collecting samples from the lunar surface that could serve as very crucial probe on moon.
The main mission of the test orbiter was to travel to the moon, fly around it and return back to the Earth in order to provide the scientists to conduct a complete home work before taking up their main 2017 lunar mission.
