NASA’s Kepler telescope has taken a clear image of what might be considered one of the oldest stars of the Universe accompanied by Earth sized planets.
Scientists have come across one of the biggest discoveries of the last past years. Kepler telescope has helped them identify an old solar system, very similar to the one our planet is located. Professionals from the university of Birmingham, UK, have identified a star around which are orbiting five planets, similar in size with Earth.
According to the British scientists, the new found star, named Kepler-444 and its planets, are much older than Earth and are bodies dating from the first stages of the Universe. The planets vary in sizes, they are somewhere between the sizes of Mercury and Venus and are set to fully orbit their star in an equivalent of 10 earthly days period, which means they could be to hot to sustain life. The plantes are rocky, but scientists dont know yet more about their composition.
Even though, the distance of the planets from the Kepler-444 star, excludes the possibility of life existence, in the present, researchers believe that a very long time behind, planets comparable in size with Earth, capable of sustaining life, might have existed in the past, orbiting an ancient star.
The newly discovered solar system, is situated at 117 light years away from our planet and it is the oldest from its kind. It has formed 11.2 billion years ago, which means it’s just a little younger than the Universe, which is thought to have formed 14 billion years ago. Kepler-444 is 25% smaller than our sun, and it is much cooler.
A finding of this magnitude, could aid scientists, establish with precision the exact moment when planets, started forming and find new clues on the existence of possible ancient forms of life in the galaxy, explained leader of the study, researcher Tiago Campante.
Scientists don’t block out the possibility of the existence of other outer space civilizations, which could be much more evolved than us, working with higher technology.
Keppler telescope, owned by NASA, has come across hundred of new planets located outside of our solar system, since it s release in 2009, but this one is considered to be the most intriguing sighting for the past six years.
