Sony Xperia Z3 Will be Available at T-Mobile October 29

By Leave a Comment

XperiaZ3 available at T-Mobile

Last week Sonny announced that their new smartphone Xperia Z3v will be available exclusively through one of the largest US carriers, Verizon. The latest news from the tech giant reveals that Sony Xperia Z3 will be available at T-Mobile starting October 29. T-Mobile is an important competitor to Verizon and this move was expected sooner or later.

T-Mobile announced today that the new Sony Xperia Z3 will begin selling in their stores on October 29. This comes six days after Verizon announced their flagship smartphone, the Z3v.

Even if the two carriers are in competition with each other, for Sony this is a win situation having two of the largest US carriers selling its products in their stores. This is not the first time T-Mobile and Sony are collaborating. Over the last year and a half T-Mobile has been supporting all the Xperia smartphones, the Xperia Z3 being the third one.

T-Mobile announced that they will be selling the Xperia Z3 for $26,24 a month under a 24 months plan. This means that the total cost of the smartphone will be $630, $20 less than the iPhone 6. Those who are interested in purchasing the new Sony Xperia Z3 can do so by going to the T-Mobile site starting with October 15 (12 a.am PT) and order it.

T-Mobile has confirmed that they will be selling the new Xperia Z3 when Sony debuted its new smartphone last month at the IFA consumer electronics trade show. When Verizon announced their deal with Sony, it was a flashier one.

At the event Sony showed what the new Xperia Z3v can do: it can stream PS4 games using a normal Wi-Fi network. Worry not, the Xperia Z3 available at T-Mobile will have the same features and capabilities.

The differences between the Xperia Z3 and the Z3v are minor: the Z3v is bulkier and resembles the Z2 model, it has a bigger battery, but both smartphones are water proof and come with the same camera and display technology.

What do you think of the announcement T-Mobile has just made? Do you think it’s a good deal for Sony and its Xperia Z3?

Sony Xperia Z3 to release on Verizon Wireless?

By 1 Comment

xperiaz3The Sony Xperia Z3 might have been announced and confirmed exclusively for T-Mobile; however, as per a PCMag report, Verizon too is all set for this phone. Chances are that it may at least get Xperia Z3v, its variant.

Since last few years, Sony doesn’t have a very good rapport with U.S carriers. The first smartphones of the Xperia range were available on AT&T for some period time and Verizon Wireless sadly picked up the Xperia Play in the year 2011. After that, Sony Smartphones through U.S. carriers were rarely seen until the release of Z series on T-Mobile was seen. For Sony, things haven’t got much better, but changes might be seen this year.

Xperia Z3 has a lot in common with Xperia Z2, its predecessor, but there are enough new points to get excited. To begin with, it is the first phone that has a support for PS4 Remote Play. It has impressive camera enhancements and a refined design. Many people may want this phone from Sony since a while, and now it is readily available.

While there is no official confirmation of the Verizon Wireless release, there are rumors that the phone may come to Sprint too. If this phone manages to find a home on these 3 major U.S carriers, it would be considered to be a big win for Sony and it will be the biggest release of an Xperia Smartphone for the country.

Meanwhile, Sony has release Xperia Z3 Compact at IFA being held in Berlin. Most of Z3 Compact features are same to its counterpart. The smartphone is expected to follow the foot steps of Xperia Z3 and may also release on Verizon.

Media mergers posing serious threats to consumers’ interest, say experts

By Leave a Comment

The media industry is likely to see many mergers in the coming times. Reports are rife that leading cable TV company, Comcast is looking forward to acquire another cable TV giant Time Warner Cable.  Other news of merger is likely to arrive from T-Mobile and Sprint – the third and fourth-largest wireless providers. Last but not the least Rupert Murdoch of 21st Century Fox is reportedly going to take over media firm Time Warner.

But analysts see these mergers not a good development for the media industry.

John Bergmayer, Senior Staff Attorney for the media watchdog group Public Knowledge, is cynical about the latest developments.

He says mergers and that too with such a high pace is not good for market as they reduce competition. Good competition is good for consumers as that keeps prices down and content diverse with decent service. Market law also suggests the same. Moreover, more competitors help in checking monopoly which is not good from customer’s perspective.

“As the Department of Justice and the FCC found when they blocked the AT&T-T-Mobile merger, you need a certain number of competitors to ensure that a market actually is competitive,’ he said.

According to Bergmayer, mergers hardly address the needs of consumers and media ownership and control generally under-represent communities of color.

“With enough public push-back, government agencies can be convinced to block these attempts at media empire-building,” Bergmayer said.

Other market experts also shares similar views.

Betty Yu of The Center for Media Justice, calls media mergers always bad for customers, saying they are always on the losing side.

“People of color make up about 30 percent of the population, but we barely own any real media infrastructure. So, we know how this affects how our issues – around labor and education, health care and the environment – are covered for poor people, working people and people of color,” Yu said.

For Bergmayer the merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable is more frightening. Comcast already own NBC and NBC News and if it continue the acquisitions, its   domination on cable industry would highly influence everything including the most important coverage of news.

“Comcast plus Time Warner will be so big that they can essentially make or break any independent programming,” he said.

Now, the comings days will show how these mergers are going to influence the media industry and up to what extent the concerns of media experts are going to be correct.

T-Mobile beats Sprint, Verizon to become top US wireless provider

By 2 Comments

US carrier T-Mobile US Inc has jumped from the fourth position to grab the No. 1 slot for becoming the best US wireless provider for prepaid mobile services.

Overtaking its rivals like Sprint, AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile US Inc managed to clinch the top position after booking a strong quarterly performance.

The latest figures show, T-Mobile US has grown its prepaid customers to an impressive 15.64 million. With this notable figure, T-Mobile US has managed to beat Sprint (15.19 million customers), AT&T (11.34 million prepaid customers) and Verizon Wireless (6.04 million prepaid customers).

John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, Inc. said, “The good news just keeps on coming for T-Mobile. The momentum we are seeing with our T-Mobile and MetroPCS brands is outstanding and the fact that we’ve blown by everyone to take the No.1 spot in prepaid is icing on the cake.”

“As a matter of fact, I’m going on record — I predict we’ll overtake Sprint in total customers by the end of this year. Not someday. Not next year. This year,”  Legere said.

According to Legere, the providers are giving high emphasis on the prepaid services as this has become an important area of the mobile marketplace. But no other wireless company has managed to beat the Un-carrier has in this sensitive market.

Americans are voting with their feet, and they’re joining this Un-carrier revolution by the millions,” Legere said.

MetroPCS brand has registered unprecedented growth following merger with T-Mobile last year.

Latest figures shows, MetroPCS has successfully multiplied its market reach to 45 major metro areas and about 10,000 stores by at least three times. America’s fastest nationwide 4G LTE network has also boosted its performance for expansion of markets and coverage. MetroPCS has added over 10 million prepaid customers and the numbers is tend to grow future.

Dish Network Ready With A Fall-Back Bid For T-Mobile US

By Leave a Comment

Dish Network (DISH)Chairman Charlie Ergen said that if T-Mobile’s (TMUS) merger with Sprint (S) fails, he’s ready to scoop T-Mobile up on the rebound, Bloomberg reported.

Ergen said a merger with DirecTV (DTV) would also be appealing, but would be too expensive and Dish cannot afford to fall into bidding wars with bigger companies, according to Bloomberg.

DirecTV shares have gone up lately on speculation AT&T (T) is in talks to buy the company, following Ergen’s earlier unsuccessful approach to DirecTV.

Bloomberg said T-Mobile US would appeal to Ergen because Dish’s pay-tv subscription service has slowed.

In afternoon trade, DISH was down 0.08% to $60.09, and TMUS was down 0.16% to $31.68.
