Samsung KNOX devices get NSA nod for government use

Tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. on Tuesday announced that some of its new range of Galaxy smartphones has received green signal from the National Security Agency (NSA) for their usage with classified US government networks and data.

Among the Samsung devices that received the NSA nod include Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S5 and seven other tablets or smartphones. According to the company, they have become the first set of consumer devices that have been validated by a partnership between the NSA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

With the validation, Samsung devices have got clearance for use by the US government departments in handling all range of classified data.

Notably, the South Korean tech giant had been struggling hard to expand in the American business market. For the purpose, it has also developed a software for security-conscious business clients called KNOX. The software has been installed in the Galaxy devices that were approved this time.

Samsung had earlier this year agreed with Google to include the mobile security software KNOX in the next version of Android operating system.

Experts are seeing this development as a major boost to the South Korean technology company’s efforts to expand its scope in the security-conscious business market.

Samsung mobile devices had earlier this year received approval by the Department of Defense to handle sensitive but unclassified information.
