The 31 new species that have been granted new protection status by the United Nations conservation body includes polar bears, sharks, whales, and gazelles. This protection status issued by UN was followed by six days “intense” talks by leading conversationalists with each other.
Why Endangered Species Are Doomed in This Era?
According to the researches done by Anthony, there are serious facts that reveal and shed light on how our actions today have affect extinction rates for tomorrow. The UN Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) said on Sunday those six days of “intense negotiations” has led to the occurrence of new protection list for scores of bird, fish, and mammal migratory species.
There is a record of 21 species of ray, sharks, and sawfish were added to the new list. Polar bears, which are found in the Arctic Ocean, and the widely distributed Cuvier’s beaked whale has been added to this new protection list too.
The other newly protected species are the red-fronted gazelle, which is common in Africa, and the great bustard, found in Europe and Asia. The main aim of the UN is to protect these animals and species for overall environmental conservation.
Other Reasons Stated
More than 900 experts from 120 countries met for the first time in a six-day meeting, approving all but one proposed species to be included on the protected wildlife list for more environment conservation. The African lion did not make the final cut to the list, as there was not enough information about him from the countries where it loves.
The conference was the best attended in the UN‘s 35-year history, and CMS said that this is one of the most “unexpected” levels of attention given to this topic. In addition, the director of the UN Environment Program, which administers CMS, said global interest in the areas of animal conservation and protection is very crucial for our environment.
