The tiny town of Tyrone is still recovering after one of its residents went on a full-blown murder spree and killed seven people. Joseph Jesse Aldridge, 36, was the identified shooter who fatally shot two people in three different homes, a seventh person at a different location and then himself on Thursday evening.
Of the seven victims, four were Aldridge’s relatives.
Authorities are still investigating the rampage that Aldridge went on, which was only discovered after one girl managed to escape the violent shooter as he entered her home. She began knocking on one of her neighbor’s doors in only her nightgown despite sub-zero temperatures. As the neighbors opened the door, the girl urged them to call the police, claiming that her parents had been killed.
“She was crying so hard. I finally got out of her, ‘My mom and dad have been shot.'” the neighbor who opened his door to the frightened teenager said.
The residents of the tiny town had never before felt unsafe in Tyrone, however, the situation has changed since Thursday. Police soon arrived at the scene only to discover that, apart from the teenager’s parents, more victims awaited discovery. Four different domiciles had been entered in and a total of seven victims lay dead at the barrel of Aldridge’s .45-calliber handgun.
A police report revealed that Aldridge’s mother had been found dead in her home, however, despite initial fears, authorities concluded that she had died of natural causes. It was then their suspicion that the 36 year-old went on the murder rampage as a result of his frail mental state upon discovering his mother’s death.
According to Sheriff James Sigman, the town is so small that everybody knew everybody. Although he couldn’t provide details as to the personal relationship status between Aldridge and his victims, at least four of them had been the shooter’s relatives. Those residents who accepted to provide details about the situation described Aldridge as being particularly reclusive and couldn’t really say much about the 36-year-old.
The eight victims included four married couples, Garold Dee(52) and Julian Ann Aldridge (47); Harold Wayne (50) and Janell Arlissa Aldridge (48); Martha and Darrell Shriver (Martha wasn’t fatally injured and she was able to confirm the shooter’s identity to authorities); Carey Shriver and his wife Valirea, who were also killed in their home.
After Martha Shriver confirmed Aldridge’s identity, authorities began searching for the man. He turned up on Friday, when authorities found his lifeless body inside a GMC pickup. At this time, authorities believe that Aldridge died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The pickup’s engine was still running.
