One of the US drone has killed at least five Pakistani militants after the drone exploded. The incident happened today in a tribal region and the local villagers said that one of the people killed by the US drone was a senior Arab commander.
There have been many incidents involving US drones this month and many have exploded in tribal areas killing and hurting the villagers from that particular zone. The latest US drone attacks happened after the British and US combat troops have ended their operations in Afghanistan.
One of the villagers from South Waziristan who witnessed the latest incident involving a US drone said that:
“The bodies were taken to an unknown location after the attack. We heard from local militants that there was a senior Arab commander but they didn’t mention his name.”
Another villager, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that there were “foreign guests” who were staying in the house that got targeted. The “guests” were fleeing from a military offensive in the North Waziristan region.
The drone attacks stopped because of the Pakistani government which wanted to make peace with the Taliban people. The attacks resumed four days before an anti Taliban offensive was announced by the military forces. The attacks happened in June in the region of North Waziristan.
The attacks using the drones are subject of disputes and the journalists don’t have access to the North Waziristan region. The Taliban have sealed the sites of many drone attacks.
Many believe that there are foreign militants hiding in the remote area of North Waziristan, which is a mountain region on the Afghan border. Some believe that there are Arabs and Uzbeks linked to the terrorist group al-Qaeda hiding in the mountains, planning and preparing new attacks.
The attack of the US drone happened today in Nargas, a small village in the region of South Waziristan, a region populated by Taliban militants.
The Pakistan has launched a military offensive against the North Waziristan and said that more than 1000 militants have died so far, including 86 soldiers. Pakistan has publicly protested against US drone strikes saying they are counterproductive in fighting the terrorists.
