Car maker FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Ltd, the joint venture of Volkswagen AG and a Chinese state-owned carmaker, has announced recall of 270,635 Audi cars in China on reports of technical problem with air bag software.
China’s quality watchdog on Wednesday said that the car maker has announced the recall in order to fix the air bag software problem.
An Audi China spokesperson said the initiate was part of a worldwide recall involving 850,000 vehicles announced last week.
In a released statement, the Chinese regulator said that some of the cars that are being recalled have developed issues in their software configuration in the air bag control systems.
According to the company, the problem in the airbag system blocks the air bags from opening in certain circumstances in collisions.
The recall of the Audi vehicles comes just less than two weeks after Volkswagen announced the call back over 580,000 cars in China to solve a possible suspension defect.
Among the cars involved in this latest recall include 265,943 China-made Audi A4L cars and 4,692 imported Audi A4 all-road cars that are produced from May 25, 2012 to October 22, 2014, China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in post on its website.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s Chrysler Group has also announced recall of 381,876 Ram trucks, mostly in the US, to correct a potential fire hazard.
On the other hand, Ford Motor Co said that it is going to conduct a regional recall of 204,448 Lincoln MKX and Ford Edge crossover vehicles to fix a glitch that may trigger fire.
According to Ford, the 2007-2008 models of the mentioned vehicles have fuel tank reinforcement brackets that could face corrosion, which could later result into a fuel leak and a possible fire.
