Walnuts, could be a revelation in the medicine world. Studies have shown that walnuts are a natural source of vitamin, minerals and fats, which improve our brain functions, and can even treat certain cancers.
A recent research, conducted by a team of American researchers, said that people should develop a habit of consuming walnuts every day, as they have major positive impact on the brain’s focusing ability and the capacity of receiving informations. The study, presented the first analysis from a broader project, which aims to prove the connection between the daily intake of nuts and the cognitive functions of the brain.
The experiment, lead by researcher Lenore Arab of the Medicine School, “David Geffen”, from the University of California, Los Angeles, has demonstrated the improvement of the cognitive functions of the brain, on the participants who have a diet which includes walnuts, regardless of their sex or ethnicity. For the study, researchers have analysed adults with ages mainly from 20 years old to 59 years old , but have included also, individuals with ages over 60 years old.
After processing the gathered information, researchers arrived to the conclusion, that individuals who had a larger daily intake of walnuts, proved better results at the six cognitives tests they were given, including memory tests, focusing tests and the ability to process the information tests.
The research, done by the American scientists fro the university of California, has been added to the plenty other studies, which are emphasising the benefits of walnuts on equilibrating cognitive disorders and a better functioning of the brain as a whole. It is also assumed, that walnuts could have an effect on slowing down the development of Alzheimer or they even could be effective in preventing the disease.
Walnuts are part of super foods group and are highly rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and they are a very important source of omega three fats, which are known for their essential role in the good functioning of the heart and brain. Previous studies, have demonstrated that this miraculous food proved efficient in decreasing the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease but also as a prevention method for prostate cancer, as walnuts have ingredients that can slow down the process of tumours development. Experiments on mice, have shown that the animals which have been fed for 18 weeks with walnuts, walnuts oil or any other derivate, presented lower levels of cholesterol and slower evolution of tumours.
