If you are one of the 600 million people using the WhatsApp chat, these news will be like a breeze of fresh air. The founder of the chat, announced that from this moment, WhatsApp is available as a desktop version as well.
Lets face it, typing on your phone can sometimes bee a bit annoying, the letters are small, the screen is smaller, and if your’e typing in a hurry in can turn into a big mess. For those who were looking for a change, WhatsApp might have made their wishes come true.
WhatsAp founder, Jan Koum, announced on his Facebook page that the super popular chat app has just released a desktop version that works with Google Chrome. Koum pointed out that there is no difference between the mobile WhatsApp and the one used for desktops, as the latest one would be a simple extension of the mobile app. WhatsApp will still remain an icon of mobile devices, and this shouldn’t be mistaken.
Installing WhatsApp on your personal desktop is not at all a complicated process. First step would be users to scan their QR codes of the device they are using. For the moment the desktop chat app only be used by people having Android, Blackberry, Blackberry 10 and Windows smartphones. This would be a bad news for iOS users which wont be able to use the chat on their desktop, because of Apple’s platform limitations.
So moving on with the installation. Users will have to download, install and run the latest WhatsApp version on their smartphones, even tough customers should expect not to work yet on all the devices. Testers tried installing the latest version of WhatsApp on an HTC One M8, but it lacked the “Web” option from the menu bar, which allows users to scan the QR code, necessary for the connection. However tests confirmed that the devices were working just fine. When it comes to BlackBerry 10, the options worked perfect.Once the code was scanned you are transferred to a web interface where the conversations can be picked up from where you left them.
Tests proved there is no lag difference between the time you receive the message on your phone, an the time it pops on your desktop. This would be the basic information about its features, but once playing with it more can be discovered.
