Wikipedia has just released a major update for its iOS app, which includes 3D Touch and Handoff Support. Furthermore, it also supports the newest technologies from Apple and offers faster access to core functions.
Most probably the largest virtual knowledge depository, Wikipedia has taken one step further on iOS devices. It mobile application has received several tweaks and improvements that will come in handy for the users.
The mobile app from Wikipedia has hit the App Store a while ago and has since been in need of a serious update. In this respect, developers have been working to bring you mobile editing and an offline mode. And they have succeeded.
In more details, the update will allow users to write, edit and post articles directly from their smartphones and tablets if they belong to the Apple brand. The app has also become more social since now users can easily share articles and facts with their loved ones.
According to Wikipedia, the update revolves more around personalization rather than functionality. In this respect, the mobile app will serve all users’ needs as it features built-in algorithms meant to analyse each preference of the user. In this way, it can recommend other similar articles. Another feature of the Wikipedia app will showcase daily feeds, random articles and pictures, based on the users’ previous searches.
However, some older features have also been enhanced. For instance, the app’s core functions are now compatible with the latest iOS version, and users can now access new technologies like Handoff Support and 3D Touch from Apple.
3D Touch’s purpose is to allow users to search quickly on Wikipedia, resume a previous article they had started to read or take a look at random headlines.
Thanks to Handoff Support, people will be able to access primary device features like messaging or contact lists without exiting the app or switching to the home screen. Furthermore, by using this feature they can resume their reading from where they left off even if they changed their device in the meantime. The devices do not even have to be of the same type: you can switch from a Mac to an iPhone and from an iPhone to an iPad with no problems whatsoever.
Interested in the newest update of the Wikipedia App? All you have to do is access the App Store, find the app in the list of your installed apps and upgrade it.
